Julie Olson
Chair
Julie Olson has been a vibrant part of the Northwest Wine & Food Society board since 2015. Her wine of choice? A bold Syrah that perfectly complements her love for rich, flavorful experiences.
When she’s not sipping on her favorite Syrah, you might find her enjoying a Last Word or a Sazerac. Her best dining memory hails from a cozy restaurant in Lyon, where a 2017 Cote-Rotie Syrah stole the show.
For Julie, joining the NWFS board was all about connecting with like-minded individuals who believe, as she does, that food and wine are the heart of community.

John Blom
Vice-Chair
John Blom has been a dynamic member of the Northwest Wine & Food Society board since 2022. A true wine enthusiast, John’s go-to varietal is a classic Burgundy. In the summer, you can find him savoring a refreshing tequila and grapefruit juice, especially while hitting the links.
His all-time best dining experience took place in Kyoto, Japan, where he indulged in A5 Wagyu beef. The experience was so unique that the chef even presented documentation on the cow, detailing its lineage and weight at butcher, before preparing a meal that surpassed all expectations.
John’s decision to join the NWFS board was driven by the board’s passion and their commitment to fostering the next generation of talent, all while ensuring that the journey is as enjoyable as the destination.

Victor Jurgens
Treasurer
Victor Jurgens joined the Northwest Wine & Food Society board in July 2023, bringing with him a deep appreciation for bold red wines. Domestically, he’s partial to Walla Walla Cabernet, while internationally, Plavac Mali from Croatia holds a special place in his heart.
When it’s time for a cocktail, Victor opts for a Tanqueray Gin Martini—shaken, not stirred, slightly dirty, with two olives. Victor’s most memorable dining experience was a 24-hour culinary adventure with James Beard Award-winning chef Gregory Gourdet, featuring three extraordinary meals across Portland.
Driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact in his community, Victor joined the NWFS board to support local restaurants, wineries, breweries, and distilleries, working with the industry and educational institutions to help shape the next generation of leaders.

Kate Carr
Secretary
Kate Carr has been bringing her bubbly personality to the Northwest Wine & Food Society board since 2023. She’s a Champagne lover through and through, both as her favorite wine and go-to adult beverage.
Kate’s top dining experience was at the legendary Joel Robuchon in Las Vegas, but she’s also a big fan of the Portland food scene, with favorite spots like Toro Bravo, Canard, Little Bird, Departure, and Kann. Living in such a food-abundant community is a joy for her!
Kate’s passion for the restaurant industry inspired her to join the NWFS board. She’s immensely proud of her career and wants to support others who are pursuing their culinary dreams. She feels humbled and blessed to serve with such amazing board members and contribute to the society’s mission.

Barbara Watts
Board Member
With a passion for wine that rivals her love of education and good food, Barbara Watts has been a dedicated member of the Northwest Wine & Food Society board since 2018. Her go-to wine varietal is a Spatlese Riesling, especially when enjoyed along the scenic middle Rhine River.
Her all-time favorite dining experience was at Al Amir in Portland, where the family-style Lebanese feast left a lasting impression.
Barbara’s enthusiasm for wine, learning, and culinary delights made joining the NWFS board an easy choice!

Greg and Jae Weber
Board Member
Greg and Jae Weber have been rocking the Northwest Wine & Food Society board since fall 2023. They can’t get enough of Washington State Big Reds, and when it’s time to unwind, nothing beats a smoked Old Fashioned.
Their top dining experience? The mind-blowing Confluence Winemakers Dinner at Morchella in Portland with Chef Cameron Dunlap.
They jumped on the NWFS Board because they love its mission of connecting the culinary world with awesome people and great education. Supporting local colleges, businesses, and students through NWFS’s efforts makes them super proud to be part of this amazing team!
